Q1. What is this program about? Why was it created?
A1. The IXA University Program was created in 2000 to ensure that engineering students interested in network processors would have access to Intel’s ® IXP network processor platform for research as well as for learning its programming. We realized early on that very few universities had network processor teaching and research resources for their students so we set out to ensure that a good selection of universities worldwide could get this access.

Q2. What can I do to join? Are you signing up new universities?
A2. We are no longer signing up new universities. The program is still continuing but in “maintenance” mode. Occasionally, however, we have special events such as competitions and others. So do check back with us often to see the latest updates!

Q3. I understand you’re not taking on any new universities, but we have what we believe is a very compelling research proposal. Are there other Intel programs like this one we can submit this proposal to?
A3. Yes. You can submit research proposals through the Intel Research page at www.intel.com/research

Q4. If I can’t join to get a grant from Intel – Can I purchase IXP boards for my university at a special price through this program?
A4. Yes. We have made a special arrangement with our board vendor to provide universities with IXP network processor boards at highly discounted prices. Visit our vendor at www.radisys.com and identify yourself as a university. The board we are providing our program universities is the RadiSys ENP-2611 IXP2400 PCI card.

Q5. If I can’t join to get a grant from Intel – can my university still be part of the program?
A5. Yes. We can include you as an “affiliate” school. This means you will be listed on our website in the Affiliate School category and we will link to any publications or papers you have published. However, you will not receive direct technical support from us.
